#growth Vince Lombardi said, *"Perfection is not attainable, but if we chase perfection we can catch excellence."* If we relentless chase perfection, knowing that we will never attain it, we will catch excellence in the process. --- Embracing this philosophy will help get over perfectionism, because we embrace perfectionism in order to be motivated to achieve. But we also hold on to the expectation of achieving perfectionism along side achieving our primary goal. Vince's philosophy removes the expectation that we will achieve perfection, since that is never possible, while still allowing us to harness the motivation to achieve. We can still celebrate our excellent execution of whatever it is we set out to do when we achieve it, and understand that our striving toward perfectionism is worth appreciating. Another important part of overcoming perfectionism is accepting reality. It is impossible to be perfect, that's just reality, and understanding that moves us away from being a perfectionist and toward being an optimist. Finally, understanding that we can't be good at everything, due to [[Duality]], forces us to accept that we cannot be perfect at everything, and therefore cannot be perfect at all. --- Brian Johnson talks about chasing perfection to catch excellence in this snippet: and in the below example he describes how reframe and replace the perfectionist mindset with one that uses similar words but completely reverses the feeling:
